SUMMER DAYS 2007

I have the privilege of staying with Stephanie, Dylan and Eli the week of August 6th. Chris is working at a missionary retreat near Fayetteville, AR. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time and may have a few withdrawals next week! Dylan and I have played blocks, trains, read books, taken naps together and gone on walks around the neighborhood. He even told me that he was glad Nana came to stay at his house. This came about while we were working on one of our potty training trips. That was a heart gripper! He is working hard on this area and got a big prize Thursday morning for telling Mommy ahead of time.

Eli and I have gotten to know one another better this week. We even got up together for a couple of bottles Tuesday evening and let Mommy sleep all night. I was just sure he was about to smile at me this week but not yet. He listens very attentively when I talk to him. He is a good baby and even enjoys laying on Papa's tummy. Yesterday Stephanie and I took him to the hospital to have a PKU test. His Mommy got to hold him for the stick but was all over in a short time. Nana didn't even have to hear him cry. We went shopping for a couple of necessary items and ate lunch at Stephanie's favorite spot, Panera Bread. Dylan got to go to the zoo with Uncle Aaron's family; more fun for him! We met back up with him at church Wednesday evening.

Today Stephanie and Dylan have gone to a nearby town to meet up with Uncle Aaron's family to go swimming at the community park. Nana and Eli are just hanging out together and that's o.k. It is another warm summer day to get around 97 degrees. We will have more fun under the air conditioner.

We have had several grandchildren birthday parties to attend starting in March and ending in July. We may combine some of them next year as 4 of them come very close in June/July.

Rick will be attending several prison ministry meetings during the month of September. The last weekend in July we saw 30 precious souls come to know the Lord as their Saviour through 2 prison trips. The Lord only knows the eternals blessings of this ministry. We also completed Vacation Bible School during August and had several new family contacts through that ministry. We count it a blessing and privilege to have all our children/grandchildren attending and ministering in our church together at Wilson Creek. We have a great pastor and pastor's wife who set a superb example before them. They love on our grandkids and make them feel special!

We would love to hear from any of you that visit our website or come to the Branson area. Just give us a call and we could meet up for some good coffee or Coca-Cola. Count your blessings and don't forget to name them one by one to see what the Lord hath done, Amen!

CHRISTMAS GREETINGS FROM MISSOURI!

This time of year always brings out reflections of special memories that are tucked away in our heart’s treasure box. The fun times we had as children playing in the snow, cutting down the tree, decorating it with popcorn and red berries. Oh my, that was a chore! The memory of that special gift our Dad and Mom sacrificed to purchase just for us. We know little of true sacrifice these days. This brings to mind the best gift of all that truly was a sacrifice – the Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior, who came to this earth to seek and save that which was lost. The Jaquess Family is grateful for the gift of salvation as each adult gives personal testimony of accepting this gift. Jesus is the reason for the Christmas seasonJ May we make a special effort to tell someone about the free gift while God’s love for mankind is presented in so many fashions at this wonderful holiday time.

The Jaquess Family is now 14 in number and soon to be 15. Stephanie received confirmation on her birthday that she is expecting Baby Beeson #2 around July 10th. We had two new grandchildren born during 2006, Callie McKenna Jaquess, belonging to Aaron & Julia and Hope Haemi Jaquess, belonging to Christopher & Melanie. Each one has their own special way of capturing your heart when they are in your presence. We have the privilege of seeing them often as each family still lives in this area and are faithful, working members of our church. Our lives as well as theirs revolve around our family and our church. We are very blessed.

Rick continues to direct Turning Point Prison Ministry. There are several ministry teams from our church that travel to the state and federal prisons in Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma. It has been a rewarding ministry but only the Lord knows the true harvest. We have seen souls saved and added to our church this past year as well.

We were able to attend a Thunderbird air show in March at the air base in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Our long time friend from Germany, Rob Clanin,
was a Thunderbird team member and provided us with VIP passes. We were able to get a close-up view of the planes and the fun part was taking our grandsons AJ and Dylan to see all the excite-ment. We also had a nice visit with Lew & Karen Clanin that weekend.

March was our traveling month as we also went to College Station, Texas. Rick was on an ordination council for one of our friends, Chad Harkrider. We traveled down with Randall & Brenda Moody, Phyllis’s sister/our pastor. We had a great time of fellowship with the Harkriders and with those attending the ordination.

We have several family birthday parties, baby showers and holiday cookouts to attend throughout the year which helps us have some quality time together. We always try to make it to Branson or somewhere nearby for a family weekend get-a-way. This took place in August this year.

Stephanie and Chris built a new home this year and have invited all of us to spend the night at their place on December 22nd to have our traditional Christmas dinner and family time. There will be our 14 plus Rick’s mother is going to be visiting with us at that time. The date is not important to us as to when we are able to get 4 families together, just that we make time to have “our time”.
Psalms 103:2 “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:” The Lord put a colon at the end of that verse for a purpose. His benefits are innumerable!!!

Sacher Torte

Today I made this cake.

Sacher Torte

Original Sacher-Torte is at its best when served with unsweetened whipped cream and a cup of Original Sacher Café or tea.

Ingredients
130 g (4.5 oz.) butter
110 g (4 oz.) icing sugar
6 egg yolks
130 g (4.5 oz.) chocolate
130 g (4.5 oz.) flour
6 egg whites
100 g (3.5 oz.) fine granulated sugar
Apricot jam

Preparation

1. Beat together the butter and icing sugar; gradually add in the egg yolks and the melted chocolate, stirring constantly.
2. Beat the egg whites with the granulated sugar to stiff peaks and mix them into the chocolate batter. Gently fold in the flour.
3. Place in a buttered tart mould and bake for 60 minutes at 180° C (350° F).
4. Let cool, remove from the mould, slice through the centre and fill with a layer of good apricot jam. Glaze with chocolate.

Mid October

The weather is beautiful. We just got rain and the sun is shining. The smell of fall is in the air. The leaves are changing. Isn't God's creation wonderful to enjoy!

We had a great day today. We read several books, played cars, rolled around on the floor, and then Dylan and I made sandwiches and cornbread to take to Daddy's work. It was boss's day and others brought soups and chili. We topped it off with a cookie and ice cream was available for all. Back at home, we played outside enjoying the perfect weather. I don't know about Dylan but I'm already dreaming about next summer when we have grass in our yard and not so much mud. I think Dylan would prefer the mud. He's taking a nap now and I'm getting ready to do some work and then start dinner.

Trying to decide what you are in the mood for when you've just eaten is rather difficult. I only shop for a menu of ideas and then you have to pick which one sounds good so you can prepare. So, tonight we're having caribbean jerk chicken, pasta, steamed broccoli, and maybe a salad. Dylan will probably have green beans instead of broccoli. I guess that's ok.

2007 Entertainment Book

We buy an Entertainment book every year. Les and Nicole got us started on these. I think alot of the schools use these as fund raisers.
